Pop star Dua Lipa sent fans into a frenzy after bringing out the Jamiroquai frontman Jay Kay on her very first show at London’s Wembley Stadium.
After opening with her tune ‘Training Season’, and tearing through old classics like ‘One Kiss’ and ‘Hotter Than Hell’, a song she hasn’t played live since 2019, Dua Lipa paused the music to address the crowd of 70,000. She coyly introduced someone who really “inspired” her.
She continued, “Someone who has really been a trailblazer for British music and has really paved the way, I feel so lucky to share the stage with the one and only Jamiroquai!” The frontman of the funk band, Jay Kay, appeared on the stage in a tasselled white cowboy jacket and pink jeans.
The singer shuffled on stage gleefully, making his way to Dua Lipa to plant a kiss on her cheek. The pair then launched into Jamiroquai’s hit ‘Virtual Insanity’, which was released when Dua was only one year old.
At another point in the show, Dua Lipa addressed the fans with an emotional confession, sharing, “This is so surreal and so crazy. It means the absolute world to me that you are here tonight. It feels really really special to be here tonight. It is 10 years since our first ever London show to about 350 people and I just dreamt of a night like this where I get to be in front of 70,000 people.”
Dua Lipa was recently hailed as the best feminist role model of our times by author and musician Patti Smith, who called her, “fun-loving, she cares about people – that’s in parallel to having a real thirst for knowledge. She’s not afraid to speak up for displaced people.” Dua Lipa has become only the second female performer to headline Wembley, after Adele.
She will play another night at Wembley Stadium on June 21st, before moving to Liverpool’s Anfield Stadium for two nights.
