On Friday, March 21, the 34-year-old Oscar-nominated actress was seen filming for Emerald Fennell’s upcoming adaptation of Emily Brontë’s classic novel Wuthering Heights. Margot stunned in an off-the-shoulder silk dress, featuring a bustier top, puffy sleeves, a full skirt, and a long, dramatic veil, as she shot scenes in the misty countryside, as captured in images shared by The Daily Mail.

Following the release of these photos, many fans of the novel expressed concerns over Margot playing the role of Catherine Earnshaw.

Though Brontë’s 1847 novel doesn’t specify exact ages or dates, Catherine is only 18 or 19 when she dies after giving birth. Given Margot’s age, many felt that casting her in the role seemed off.

One person wrote on X, “I love Margot Robbie, but casting someone in their 30s to play a character who dies at 18 (EIGHTEEN) is strange. Cathy’s premature death is a key moment in the story.”

Another commenter shared their disapproval, saying, “I hate it already. The dress and bouquet don’t fit the era. And yes, I’ll say it—Margot’s too old to play Catherine. Catherine is a teenager, and she dies at 18/19. This isn’t a teenager. Urgh 😩”

Despite the backlash, some fans expressed curiosity about the film.

“Okay, so I know we were all skeptical about the Wuthering Heights casting, but after seeing this picture, I’m very intrigued 👀,” one fan admitted. “It’s sure to be visually stunning, and of course, I’ll be watching because I absolutely adore Margot Elise Robbie ✨”

At this point, it’s unclear how closely the movie will stick to the original novel.

Wuthering Heights is set to hit theaters in February 2026. Stay tuned to find out who will be playing Heathcliff!
